Introduction to Organization Design with Professor Chris Worley.
  • Read articles and case study in preparation for the workshop.

  • Watch introductory videos to familiarize yourself with the fundamental principles of organization design.
  • day1

    Foundations of Organization Design
    Participants are introduced to the Galbraith Star Model™ and systems thinking, setting the stage for strategic organization design. Sessions explore business strategy, capabilities, and include a group case discussion. The day ends with personal reflection and a networking cocktail hour.

    DAY2

    Structure & Culture
    The focus shifts to defining design criteria and building core and lateral structures. Group work deepens understanding, and the day closes with a look at how culture influences design and space for individual reflection.

    DAY3

    Processes, rewards,people, & implementation
    Participants examine the systems that enable design—management processes, rewards, and people. They explore support functions and agile design principles, then conclude with implementation insights and reflection.

    DAY 4

    Application & integration
    The final day centers on applying what’s been learned through a capstone case and Q&A. Participants reflect on their takeaways and plan how to apply concepts back in their organizations.

    DR. CHRISTOPHER WORLEY

    Sr. Affiliate Research Scientist at CEO, Clinical Professor at Rennes School of Business
    Chris Worley is a clinical professor of strategy and organization at Rennes School of Business, an emeritus professor of management at the Graziadio School of Business at Pepperdine University, and an senior affilate researcher at the Center for Effective Organizations at USC. Chris is a recognized researcher and consultant in the fields of organizational agility, development, and design.

    His consulting clients include Microsoft, Philips, Adidas, Gap, PayPal, Unilever, Capital One Financial, as well as several governmental and non-governmental organizations.

    Prior to his current positions, he was a professor of strategy and the founding director of the Center for Leadership and Effective Organizations, as well as the director of the Master of Science in Organization Development (MSOD) program at Pepperdine University. He also served as chair of the Organization Development and Change Division of the Academy of Management. Chris has written or co-authored numerous books, chapters, and articles.
